However, even in the 21st century, about one fifth of the world’s population lives in inadequate housing conditions and more than 100 million are estimated to be homeless (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), 2021). Although a global phenomenon, most of the burden of homelessness is observed in densely populated urban areas of developing countries. India, the world’s second most populous country, has a sizeable...

The connection between homelessness and substance use is well recognised and an issue that impacts countries around the world. People who experience substance use related issues and homelessness are extremely vulnerable to a range of harms and can find it challenging to access appropriate support that will adequately meet their needs.
In order to address the often-complex issues this population experience, it is important the workforce has appropriate knowledge about the challenges people are facing, the different forms of support and targeted interventions that are available, and means of...

Hirchak, K.A., Amiri, S., Kordas, G. et al. Variations in national availability of waivered buprenorphine prescribers by racial and ethnic composition of zip codes. Subst Abuse Treat Prev Policy 17, 41 (2022). https://doi.org/10.1186/s13011-022-00457-3
Background
Opioid overdose remains a public health crisis in diverse communities. Between 2019 and 2020, there was an almost 40% increase in drug fatalities primarily due to opioid analogues of both stimulants and opioids. Medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD; e.g., buprenorphine) are effective, evidence-based treatments that can be delivered in office-based primary care settings. We investigated disparities in the proportion of national prescribers who have obtained a waiver issued to prescribe MOUD by demographic characteristics.
