The Conference will take place on December 10–14, 2018 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, Kenya.
4.5 days (December 10-14) - Colombo Plan's Drug Advisory Programme will deliver this training. The training provides a comprehensive overview of addiction and an understanding of the physiology of addiction as a brain disease; and describes the pharmacology of psychoactive substances.
4 days (December 11-14) - Colombo Plan's Drug Advisory Programme will deliver this training. The training provides the foundation on substance use treatments. It gives an overview of recovery and recovery management, stages of change, principles of effective treatment, components of treatment and evidence-based practices.
4 days (December 11-14) - Colombo Plan's Drug Advisory Programme will deliver this training. The course focuses on an overview of the helping relationship and the opportunity to practice core counselling including basic skills in motivational interviewing, group counselling and implementation of psychoeducation sessions.
5 days (December 10-14) - Colombo Plan's Drug Advisory Programme will deliver this training. The course provides an overview of the science that underlies evidence-based prevention interventions and policies along with introductory skills and competencies to engage in prevention practice in the primary contexts where provision takes place.
4.5 days (December 10-14) - CICAD will deliver a four and a half days training that will focus on adolescent substance use treatment, will be provided to participants in the international meeting, and will cover a modified version of the original adolescent curriculum, developed for the Caribbean. The target audience for the training will be providers serving high risk or substance-using adolescents. Among the topics to be covered will be adolescent development and its impact on substance use risk, appropriate screening and assessing techniques for at risk adolescents, components and models for adolescent substance use treatment and the role of the family in treating adolescent substance use issues.
4 days (December 11-14) - This session will cover the essential parts of CADCA’s problem-solving process which is predicated on SAMHSA’s Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF). Participants will learn how to conduct a community assessment and problem analysis, develop logic models and comprehensive strategies, implement plans, set measurable objectives, and build coalition capacity. Each session will include hands-on application of the content, relevant tools and resource material as well as opportunities to network and engage with others interested in conducting successful community change efforts.
2 days (December 13-14) - This workshop will review the impacts of substance abuse on the workplace and how drug free workplace program can improve employee and employer health and wellness. The workshop will outline the key components of a model drug free workplace program and how to engage the business community to participate. The workshop will have a special focus on alcohol, marijuana and opioid use as it relates to workplace impacts.
3 days (December 12-14) - The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) will be training policymakers in the nature, prevention, and treatment of drug use disorders. The training targets decision makers working in the areas of health care, social welfare, education and prevention, anti-drug authority, anti-drug law enforcement and penitentiary institutions, offering a fresh and updated body of information to be utilized as they design and supervise drug demand reduction activities, or as they actively participate in well-coordinated inter-ministerial strategies focusing on drug demand reduction and improved health care. The program offers policymakers updated information based on scientific evidence, as well as many decades of prevention and clinical experience. This program outlines effective and cost-effective national drug demand reduction policies and strategies.
3-days Refresher Course offered from December 11-13, 2018; free of charge prior to the exam on December 14 - This course acts like a study guide and provides a review of the material presented in the Complete Universal Treatment Curriculum series to prepare candidates for taking the examination.
