Last week Joanna Travis-Roberts attended the 3rd ICUDDR conference in San Diego, USA. The International Consortium of Universities for Drug Demand Reduction (ICUDDR) event brought together a range of representatives from universities around the world who are running or are interested in running addiction studies. The attendees included students, practitioners, policy makers and university staff.
During the two days we heard the latest advances in the neuro-science of addiction, examples of addiction programmes underway, planning for how to develop study programmes, student experiences, country perspectives and inputs from a range of partner organisations also supporting the development of the drug demand reduction workforce. ISSUP presented the role we can play within the career of an addiction studies student and graduate, with a particular focus on our special student membership category and the development we provide for this group and early career professionals. We also discussed the support ISSUP is giving to any university using UPC / UTC to develop or enhance their programmes.
