Bio
Dr. Rehana Kader has been practising as a clinical psychologist for over two decades, specialising in the treatment of substance use and co-occurring psychiatric disorders. She has a special interest in working with women of all ages living in challenging socio-economic, cultural and political contexts, as well as people living with HIV and AIDS. In addition to individual, family and group therapy, she designs and offers bespoke psycho-education workshops. Dr. Kader holds a master’s degree in clinical psychology from the University of the Western Cape and a doctorate in psychiatry from the University of Stellenbosch. She was a Fulbright Hubert Humphrey Fellow at the Institute for Drug and Alcohol studies at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2006-07, and she is certified as an International Addiction Professional by the Global Centre for Credentialling and Certification. Dr. Kader is also certified as a global master trainer for the Colombo Plan and UNODC, providing expertise and capacity development in substance use prevention, treatment and recovery programmes for adults and children. She is a board member of the International Consortium of Universities for Drug Demand Reduction and the Cape Town Drug Counselling Centre. She is also an honorary senior lecturer at the Department of Mental Health and Psychiatry at the University of Cape Town.
