Flavoured E-Cigarettes - A Gateway to Conventional Smoking?
Flavoured e-cigarettes have become quite popular among teenagers. There are more than 460 brands and 7,700 flavours on the market in the US. The number of young adults using e-cigarettes has almost quadrupled over the past three years. But do flavoured e-cigarettes serve as a gateway to conventional smoking? A new study shows that teens that use flavoured e-cigarettes are more likely to try combustible cigarettes in the future. Moreover, the study found that young adults view e-cigarettes as less harmful and risky than conventional cigarettes. Lead researcher Hongying Dai from the Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City said that "comprehensive tobacco control and prevention strategies that address flavoured e-cigarette products are critically needed to reduce tobacco use among youth."
