Becky Vaughn has been working in the addictions field for over 40 years. Starting at St. Jude’s Recovery Center in Atlanta, GA, her work turned to public policy and association leadership in 1992 when she established the first addiction service providers association in GA. As CEO of The Georgia Council on Substance Abuse, she focused on legislative advocacy and community catalyst on issues around prevention, treatment, recovery, homelessness, and drug courts including passage of many bills and securing budget resources.
In 2008 she went to the State Associations of Addiction Services (SAAS) where she had served as the GA representative as their CEO. After their merger with the National Council for Behavioral Health, Becky served as the newly created VP for Addictions building the addiction presence and services at the Council until 2016. She then went on to support the Colombo Plan in Sri Lanka and served as the Director of the Global Centre for Credentialing and Certification (GCCC) until 2023 spreading the important message of a well-trained and credentialed workforce to reduce the demand for alcohol and other drugs. Becky joined the ISSUP team as the part-time Director of Development continuing her passion around workforce issues.
She contracts with other organisations to provide research analysis, provider association support, and organisational development consulting. Becky has served on numerous state and US federal committees/panels and speaks on the topic in a variety of settings. She received her BS (Honors, Magna Cum Laude) degree from the University of Georgia and her MSEd from Georgia State University. As a former teacher and mother of four, she is passionate about preventing and finding solutions to the far-reaching problems caused by untreated addiction and unsupported recovery.
