Canadians will soon know whether marijuana will be made legal. If legalised, should the drug carry an age restriction?
This question is central to new research published in the journal Health which suggests that young users report lower physical and mental wellbeing later in life.
A December 2016 report produced by the Canandian Task Force on Cannabis Legalisation and Regulation recommends that the drug should be restricted to those 18+.
Marijuana has been shown to affect people’s physical and mental health in a number of ways including, on the one hand, memory loss and diminished IQ and, on the other, respiratory problems and a greater risk of developing certain cancers.
The latest study suggests that the younger you are when you start using the drug, the more serious the health risks will eventually be.
