Alcohol Policy in Uganda
Harmful alcohol consumption remains a critical public health concern in Uganda. Despite efforts by the government to introduce policies that will improve the situation, alcohol companies are finding new ways to advertise and sell their products. Most recently, this has been in the form of low-cost alcohol sachets.
In a blog post written for IOGT, the Executive Director of Hope and Beyond David Kalema discusses the current situation of alcohol consumption in Uganda.
The report describes the journey that the government of Uganda has been on to implement evidence-based policies to try to resolve the alcohol problem and the continuous battle between the public interests versus private interests.
Although there are many challenges that need to be addressed in order to tackle the level of harm that alcohol is causing for society, the government is working closely with international organisations to implement policies that will protect the wellbeing of people in Uganda.
