ISSUP at Lisbon Addictions 2019

At the end of October ISSUP staff attended the third Lisbon Addictions Conference at the Lisbon Congress Center. Over 1,000 participants from around the world came together to learn about and explore challenges relating to drugs, alcohol, tobacco, gambling, the internet and other addictive behaviours. The conference provided ISSUP with the opportunity to engage with leading policy experts, researchers and practitioners across countries and fields.

ISSUP’s Chief Executive, Joanna Travis-Roberts, chaired a panel on the development, training and credentialing of the drug demand reduction workforce. Kim Johnson, Executive Director of ICUDDR, shared the role and contribution being provided through the development of an international consortium of universities. Becky Vaughn, Director of the Global Centre for Credentialing and Certification (GCCC), discussed the need for, and value of providing an international credentialing service that is unique and specific to those who wish to develop their professional abilities in the drug demand reduction field. Peer van der Kreeft, University College Ghent, shared information on a new EMCDDA supported training initiative, EU-Adapt - which is focused on prevention and its contribution towards a professional prevention workforce in Europe. ISSUP also presented an e-poster as part of the conference.
