New Chair for the ISSUP National Chapters Advisory Committee

We are excited to welcome Roger Weimann as the new Chairperson of the ISSUP National Chapters Advisory Committee. Roger is presently the Deputy Director of ISSUP South Africa and hitherto, served as the Director of the South African National Chapter for 4 years.

As a member of the National Chapters Advisory Committee since its inception—and previously serving as Deputy Chair under the former Chair—Roger brings a unique understanding of the Committee’s structure and ongoing projects.

Roger Weimann holds a Master’s degree in Psychology and a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science. With over 17 years of experience, he specialises in substance use disorder (SUD) rehabilitation, prevention, and education. He is currently the Managing Director of Elim Clinic in Johannesburg, South Africa and a member of both the Prevention and Treatment Experts Advisory Groups with DAP.

Roger’s main interests include the development and education of students and healthcare professionals entering the workforce, especially the sensitivity of language in understanding SUDs. He is also passionate about using Narrative Therapy as part of a comprehensive treatment approach for SUDs and implementing programmes to reduce the stigma surrounding treatment.

Mr Weimann describes the National Chapters Advisory Committee as a vital part of the ISSUP offering and in his own words, he says, “ As a membership organisation, it is vital that ISSUP members are represented through the Committee, and that the work done by this Committee benefits both the ISSUP organisation and its members. This is my main focus for the next two years.“

Congratulations Roger Weimann, we are looking forward to working with you!
