Annette Dale-Perera has worked in the area of substance use disorders (SUD) for over 35 years. She is Director of a management consultancy company specialising in SUD policy and practice (ADP consultancy UK). In 2018/19 her main contracts include:
- Lead consultant for the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC) on a global project on quality standards and assurance within SUD treatment
- UNODC Nigeria helping national experts develop: clinical guidelines, a quality assurance mechanism, and a national strategy for SUD treatment
- EU funded work with the Ministry of Public Health in Afghanistan consolidate and implement drug use disorder protocols
- Consultant for ChangeGrowLive for the largest provider of UK SUD treatment.
Annette is a UK government advisor on Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (2010-2019), a Trustee of 2 charities and on ISSUP Treatment Expert Advisory Group (TEAG). Her previous employment has included: NHS Strategic Director of Addiction and Offender Health (2009-14) with a portfolio covering 9 localities and 15 prisons; Executive Director of Quality at the National Treatment Agency for Substance Misuse (2001-2009); Director of Policy for DrugScope (1995-2001); University of London Research Fellow (1989-1995); and a practitioner (1984-89). Her background is in psychology and she has authored and led numerous national and international publications on drug and alcohol treatment.
