I am a Medical Doctor, Specialist in Psychiatry, who has been active in the addictions field since working as a general practitioner in 2001 during which time I was completing my diploma studies in drug addiction.
As a specialist, I have worked in addictions in the Hospital of Lota, in Hospital Las Higueras in Talcahuano. Over the last 5 years, I have established my private clinic where I have a multidisciplinary team of professionals, with a high level of training and clinical practice, attending patients in the ambulatory work system. The team provide structured yet flexible treatment programs that have a focus on the different needs of the patient and their families. These programs are also evaluated continuously through regular team meetings.
In addition, in my clinical practice, I worked for 10 months, in 2010, at the Pitié Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris, France, and I completed a 2-month observation stay at CAMH, Toronto, Canada, 2016.
Since 2013, I work as an assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Concepción. Here, I am in charge of teaching courses related to addictions problems to physicians of the psychiatry specialist training program at the university.
Finally, since 2017 I am in charge, as principal investigator, of the research entitled: "Evaluation of the Efficacy of N-Acetylcysteine to Reduce Craving and to Prolong Abstinence Time of Coca Paste" which is financed by CONICYT (FONIS SA16I0192), an organization that is in charge of granting public funds for the development of science in our country. In the context of this public financing is that I led, together with another Chilean colleague, recently in Santiago and Concepción, an International Symposium of Addictions bringing to our country guests of the highest level from the Mayo Clinic, United States, and the Pitié Salpêtrière Hospital from Paris, France.
