Abel Basutu is a Programme specialist with extensive experience in policy formulation and advocacy, management and implementation of technical cooperation projects in diversified development fields including drug use prevention and treatment, and protection of children’s rights (in particular tackling online child sexual exploitation and abuse); He started his career as a journalist and is a nine-time winner of Reuters’ international news agency media excellence awards. He trained as an Auditor with Ernst and Young Chartered Accountants and holds a PhD in Business Administration.
He previously worked for the Zimbabwe Inter-Africa News Agency, World Food Programme (WFP), World Health Organization (WHO), and International Labour Organization (ILO). He currently works for the African Union Commission as a Senior Programme Officer, Drug Control.
