This interactive presentation explores how parental trauma can manifest in family counseling, and evidence-based practices to manage parental trauma within counseling sessions. We will review the current literature surrounding parental trauma, its effects on the family system, and ways in which it may present itself in counseling. There will be time for breaking into small groups for discussion.
Objectives:
- Discuss parental trauma and the effects of the trauma on the family system
- Examine how parental trauma presents in family counseling
- Identify five tools for managing parental trauma in a family counseling session.
