Webinar "Chronic sleep restriction facilitates drug use"
Chronic restriction of sleep hours is a risk factor for developing cardiovascular, metabolic and psychiatric disorders. Several studies have shown that the chronic reduction of sleep time favors the relapse of patients addicted to substances. In animal models, both sleep restriction and deprivation are reported to increase self-administration of methylphenidate and cocaine. In the seminar we will discuss how chronic sleep restriction favors preference and consumption for alcohol and succulent foods.
Speaker: Dr. Fabio Garcia-Garcia, researcher and academic of the Sleep Biology Laboratory, Department of Biomedicine, Institute of Health Sciences, at the Universidad Veracruzana (UV).
