Adfam Forum: Drug and Alcohol Prevention
Adfam's monthly online forum events are free to attend and open to anyone with a professional interest in supporting families affected by substance use or gambling.
By attending Adfam’s forum events you will hear from experts across the sector, network with other professionals working in the same area and share practice.
Adfam is a UK-based charity that works to improve life for people affected by the drinking, drug use or gambling of a family member or friend.
Our next forum is taking place on Thursday 1st September 2022, 10.30am - 12 noon.
We are delighted to be joined by Professor Harry Sumnall of Liverpool John Moores University.
Harry Sumnall is a Professor in Substance Use at the Public Health Institute and his research interests cover all aspects of substance use, particularly young people’s health issues.
Harry was a Member of the UK Government Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD) between 2011-2019, is a Board Member and Past-President of the European Society for Prevention Research (EUSPR) (2010-2019), a scientific advisor to the MIND Foundation and a Consultant to EMCDDA and UNODC on drug prevention research.
Harry's presentation will focus on the topic of drug and alcohol prevention, including which approaches are effective in reducing substance use and harms, how prevention fits with other approaches to reduce substance-related harm, and the relationship between substance use and other health risk behaviours.
The presentation will be followed by a Q&A and wider discussion.
This event will take place via Zoom, register via the link below to receive access.
