Description
Peer recovery services are becoming an integral part of the process for those seeking or already in recovery from substance use. There appears to be quite a bit of confusion as to what a peer recovery specialist (PRS), also called a recovery coach (RC), does exactly. This interactive presentation is meant to help provide some clarity around that topic.
Learning Objectives
- Participants will be able to provide information about the differences between a PRS/RC, treatment technician, sponsor, and counselor.
- Participants will be able to more clearly define the roles and responsibilities of a PRS/RC.
- Participants will be able to provide education about what should NOT be part of the roles and responsibilities of a PRS/RC.
Content Level
- Intermediate level courses provide information that builds on knowledge practitioners with some experience already have. These courses focus on skill-building or adding knowledge, possibly following a brief overview of basic information, and involve using information in concrete situations and understanding the underlying structure of the material.
Who Should Attend
Addiction professionals, employee assistance professionals, social workers, mental health counselors, professional counselors, psychologists, and other helping professionals that are interested in learning about addiction-related matters.
