This manual is designed to teach cultural competence concepts, values, and strategies for engagement and treatment with Hispanics and Latinos with substance use disorders (SUD). The manual introduces a basic understanding of cultural competence and the relationship of culture to SUD and highlights what research demonstrates: that culturally responsive treatment may strengthen the therapeutic alliance that is necessary to increase adherence to treatment.
