Britain and the Booze: New Stats Reveal a Fall in Alcohol Consumption Nationwide

British people love an alcoholic beverage or two (or three, or four), so the stereotype goes.
New statistics from the Office for National Statistics, however, suggest a decrease in levels of alcohol consumption across the country. The survey found of those asked that a little under 60% had had an alcohol drink in the past week. This is the lowest recording since the survey began in 2005.
Most surprising is the fact that young people were not found to be the biggest drinkers and are, in fact, among the age groups least likely to have consumed alcohol in the past seven days. Less than half of 16 to 24-year-olds, compared to almost 2/3 of 45 to 64-year-olds, reported consuming an alcoholic drink.
