A Cross-Journal Call for Papers- Substance Use, Misuse and Dependence: Prevention and Treatment
Substance use and misuse affect people worldwide, of all ages and from all walks of life, resulting in a substantial burden of ill health and mortality, and presenting big challenges in prevention and treatment.
PLOS Medicine is planning a special issue on this topic and is now calling for research papers from the diverse communities that work to support people and populations affected by substance use and misuse.
The aim is to unite clinicians and researchers from all the specialities involved in caring for people and communities impacted by substance use disorder, to stimulate research and strengthen the knowledge and expertise to combat the consequences of substance use and misuse.
Areas of focus include:
- Epidemiology of substance use, misuse, and dependence, and comorbid mental health disorders
- Interactions between substance use and infectious diseases.
- Research on an individual- and population-level approaches to prevention and treatment of substance use
- Methods for deployment and evaluation of policies and strategies for prevention, harm reduction, and treatment of substance use
- Addressing substance use in key populations, including children and adolescents, those affected by the criminal justice system, and sexual minorities
Articles must be submitted to PLOS Medicine by 7 June 2019.
