Volatile Substance Abuse

Volatile Substance Abuse (VSA) is the practice of inhaling volatile substances, which are often common household products, like glues, gases and aerosols in order to get high.

Glues, gases and aerosols contain volatile substances which are depressants. This means they slow down your brain and body’s responses and produce a similar effect to being drunk.

Volatile Substance Abuse is a continuing problem with no single solution. It cuts across age, gender and social boundaries.

In a recent article published in the conversation, researchers from Liverpool John Moores University and La Trobe University provide information about volatile substance use - a problem that never went away.
