At the Maisha HIV/AIDS conference 2019, we discussed how drug and substance abuse related to HIV/AIDS. Drug abuse changes our thought process and fogs judgment. We are prone to making decisions that we would not have made while sober. This could lead to bad sex related choices and consequently danger of spread of HIV/AIDS. Some drugs involve use of injections that could lead to swapping of blood and contact with the virus. We also see people who discover they have the virus could turn to substance abuse as a coping mechanism. We really cannot talk about HIV/AIDS without discussing substance abuse.
