COVID-19 Reduces Drug Supply, Increases Patients Seeking Treatment in India

In the Indian state of Punjab, more than 26,000 patients have registered for substance use disorder treatment during the COVID-19 lock down. Additionally, the state government has launched mobile vans to provide medication assisted treatment and social support while maintaining physical distancing policies.
These registrations are believed to be a direct result of a decrease in drug supply, also caused by the measures implemented to stop the spread of COVID-19. The article specifically mentions constrictions in opium supply. During the lock down a total of 498 people connected to drug smuggling have been arrested.
