E-cigarettes are now the most commonly used form of tobacco among youth in the US. As traditional cigarette use among youth has declined, e-cigarette use has steadily increased.
Though adolescent cigarette smoking rates have decreased over the past four decades with fewer than 1 in 25 teens reporting daily tobacco use, e-cigarette use has increased two-fold. There are still lower rates of adolescent nicotine use overall, but a potentially dangerous trend has emerged with the increased use of vaping.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA or the Agency) is announcing a public hearing to discuss the effort to eliminate youth electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) use as well as other tobacco product use, with a focus on the potential role of drug therapies to support cessation and the issues impacting the development of such therapies.
