"Motherhood and Recovery" highlights the experiences of working with pregnant women and/or their children in Argentina, marking the establishment of the first residential device in the country dedicated to addressing this problem. This initiative underlines the need to design specific support systems for this population, as there were no comparable experiences at the state level at the time.

The stigma faced by women who are both mothers and consumers compounds the challenges in effectively supporting their recovery processes. This social stigma not only reinforces exclusion and prejudice, but also increases barriers to accessing comprehensive treatment and social reintegration. Overcoming these social and legal barriers is crucial, along with the promotion of public policies that incorporate a gender perspective to adequately address this problem.

The next seminar will present experiences of this community-based residential device, focusing on the impact of drug use on motherhood, the obstacles to accessing treatment, the role of stigma and the importance of support networks, all framed in a gender and human rights perspective.

Target audience:

  • Mental health professionals, social workers, educators, and anyone interested in the impact of problematic consumption on women and their families.

Learning outcomes:

After the webinar, attendees will be able to:

  1. Understand the impact of problematic consumption on motherhood and family dynamics.

  2. Identify effective treatment strategies from a gender perspective.

  3. Recognize the barriers and challenges women face in accessing treatment.

  4. Assess the importance of support networks and inclusive public policies in the recovery process.
