ISSUP Brazil finalizes the training of 70 multipliers of the Universal Prevention Curriculum

Professionals from all over Brazil met in Campos do Jordão, from September 17 to 21, 2018, for the second stage of the training of multipliers of the Universal Prevention Curriculum. There were 70 professionals linked to universities, public services in the areas of health, education, justice, security, social, as well as professionals and others related to the third sector, which were divided into 3 courses: SCHOOL-BASED PREVENTION, FAMILY-BASED PREVENTION and PREVENTION BASED ON THE MEDIA.

The training was only possible through the partnership between FREEMIND Mobilization, the Colombo Plan and the International Society of Substance Use Professionals  (ISSUP). The work of ISSUP in Brazil is coordinated by Freemind.

The course includes the development of training skills, theoretical foundations, and evidence-based practical tools to develop, plan and implement prevention interventions in these 3 settings.

The course was developed by prevention experts from the Applied Prevention Science International (APSI), which was formed to help national and international policy makers and practitioners apply the science of prevention to address substance use and related issues within their communities.

The general objective of these courses is to assist in the development of prevention professionals so that they can implement the most effective and proven prevention interventions and policies.

After this training, under the coordination of ISSUP Brazil, professionals can multiply this knowledge and work in collaboration with national and international organizations to provide services to support the interface between science, policy and practice, including project development and coordination.

In addition to continuing education, this opportunity provided an environment of exchange and collaboration between professionals from various segments and areas of knowledge, with diverse experiences, but all linked in some way to initiatives to prevent and reduce the demand for drugs.
