OAT has been used for more than 50 years and is one of the evidence-based methods of treatment of opioid addiction. WHO, UNODC and UNAIDS recommend the use of OAT for the management of patients with opioid dependence and for the prevention of HIV infection/AIDS.

According to the Political Declaration on HIV and AIDS, adopted in June 2021 at the 75 sessions of the UN session, “Eliminating inequality and taking the path to end AIDS by 2030” is one of the pillars of prevention of people who inject drugs in the country through the OAT program.

For many years in Kazakhstan, the picture of the prevalence of drug use, in particular injecting drug use, which is one of the ways of HIV transmission, has been preserved. A wide arsenal of different methods is used, including OAT.

Learning outcomes:

Expansion of knowledge about the program of opioid agonists therapy, study of foreign experience in the implementation of the program
