PhD Opportunities
Alcohol Policy and Science
The University of York is offering a PhD Studentship in the Department of Health Sciences, The Transformative Research on the Alcohol Industry, Policy and Science (TRAPS) Research Programme.
TRAPS is funded by the Wellcome Trust and the University of York to investigate the alcohol industry, public health sciences and policy. Suitable for those interested in industry engagement with science (evidence production); the science/policy interface including the use of evidence within policy making; and industry involvement in alcohol policy making.
The studentship offers a tax free stipend per annum for UK/EU citizens in line with Wellcome Trust standard rates (£19,919 in year 1, then increasing up to £23,298 GBP in year 3) for 3 years, plus tuition fees at the UK/EU rate. The deadline is 6th June 2018.

Prevention Science
The University of Miami is offering a PhD in Prevention Science and Community Health through their school of Public Health. The PhD programme offers students the chance to be trained in many areas including etiology, intervention design and evaluation, innovative data collection and analyses, community-based participatory research, and implementation science.
An annual annual stipend of $28,000 USD is available in addition to other benefits.

Performance and Image Enhancing Drugs
A PhD research opportunity from the University of Birmingham on the Psychosocial Factors Influencing Use of Performance Enhancing Drugs in Sport and Exercise. This project aims to explore the psychosocial regulation of this behaviour, it will be studied in athletes in sport seeking to gain a performance advantage through use of PEDs or those looking to enhance their image and how this might be a potentially harmful behaviour.
Funding is possible through the University and the project can be completed at full or part-time.

Events
June
The International Health Congress will be held in Oxford, June 28th-30th 2018. The event will bring together health researchers who aim to promote health and wellbeing through improved health services in Europe and around the world.

July
Liverpool John Moores University will host a PhD symposium on 4th July 2018. The conference is free to attend and will focus on "Improving and Understanding Health".
Topics including: Preparing for viva, academic writing, undertaking research with vulnerable adults, and undertaking research with children will all be available.

Scholarships
The Flinders University Australian Government Research Training Program (AGRTP) Scholarship (International) is intended to support international students to undertake a research higher degree at Flinders University in Australia. The Scholarship covers international tuition fees and a stipend. Flinders University provides the recipient with a generous living allowance paid at the rate of $27,082 AUD. Up to ten scholarships are available each year. Applications close Friday 13 August at 5pm Australia, Adelaide local time.
