ISSUP NATIONAL CHAPTER, GHANA

Abass Hamza - 6 May 2022

Dear All,

I trust this mail finds you well and you are doing well and staying safe.

My name is Abass Hamza, founder and Creative Director at HACEP-Ghana, a youth-led and youth serving organization dedicated to providing, accurate, reliable and youth friendly health information, education and services with special focus on empowering girls, women and young people through girl-centered development programming and at the same time working with and for girls to eliminate all forms of violence, discrimination and marginalization of girls and women in Ghana.

Our girls, women and young people empowerment programme focus on ending gender-based violence, child sexual abuse, child marriage and preventing and responding to the use and abuse of substances (Drugs) to enable girls’ women and young people achieve their full potentials, participate in society and decision-making process at community, local, regional and national levels.

HACEP-Ghana is aiming at launching a youth programme to respond to the upsurge in the use and abuse of opioid/substance (Tramadol, Bennerline etc) among young people in Northern Ghana.

This prompted HACEP-Ghana to undertake a nationwide survey to understand the extent to which young people especially among girls and young women.

As a professional nurse, public health practitioner and an ex-addict, I have personally gone through hell to fight my addiction, I have experience what it looks like to unfortunately become addicted to drugs or substance use and abuse. The destruction, disruption and losing my life, this inspired me to take action, so that no young person could ever go through what I went through, this is where prevention and treatment comes in.

We are therefore seeking to establish ISSUP Ghana National Chapter in time to joining the upcoming ISSUP conference in Abu Dhabi.

We would be glad if you could extend a helping hand to HACEP-Ghana to host and launch the National Chapter.

We hope that our request will meet your kindest consideration and approval at your earliest convenience.

Regards,

Abass Hamza
