The Impact of Prevention Interventions in Early Childhood

New research coming out of the University of Buffalo Research Institute on Addictions points to evidence which seems to suggest that an effective way of preventing drug and alcohol use by teenagers is to begin substance abuse education in early childhood.
The study’s findings included:
- Timing interventions in early childhood and before major developmental transitions may prove the most beneficial way of preventing substance abuse later in life.
- Warm and sensitive care givers who also keep watch on their children’s activities during middle childhood play a key role preventing substance abuse in adolescence.
