This webinar is the first in a series of seminars on relevant topics in the field of treatment, substance use prevention, and addiction recovery. This seminar will address the paradigms in the treatment of addictions, mainly from the perspective of a chronic disease and the importance of the concept of recovery as continuous care through lifestyle change.

Target audience: 

  • The webinar is aimed at professionals in the treatment of SUD, psychologists, social workers and health professionals, such as doctors and nurses, as well as practitioners and community activists in the areas of prevention and treatment.

Learning outcomes:

At the end of the session, participants will: 

  1. Understand the concept of Recovery.

  2. Identify addictive behaviors as chronic pathologies with relapses, understanding their natural history and development over time.

  3. To relate the evolutionary course of addictive disorders to that of other chronic diseases, such as high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, and bronchial asthma.

  4. To know the Recovery model as a strategy for approaching addictions.


Presenter:

Dr. José del Campo

Psychiatrist, Master in Drug Addiction from the University of Barcelona, Doctor from the Austral University of Chile, Diploma in Bioethics from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

Postgraduate professor in Psychopathology and Psychiatry in addictive behaviors and dual pathology (Universidad de Santiago de Chile and Universidad Mayor).

Member of the In-Hospital Psychiatry team of the Psychiatric Intensive Care Hospitalization Unit, Biprovincial Hospital of Quillota-Petorca.

Member of the ISSUP training team.

Moderator:

Andreas Hein

Andreas Hein is a trained Psychologist (U. de Chile) with a Master degree in Sociology (P. U. Católica de Chile) and has earned his PhD in Evidence-Based Social Intervention (University of Oxford). During his career, he has combined academic and applied research with development, implementation, and improvement of interventions aimed at vulnerable populations. He specializes in psychometrics, intervention research (design, implementation, impact evaluation) and evaluation use.

In recent years, he has served as Manager of Regional Dissemination Projects for the Colombo Plan and as a consultant for CICAD (OAS). He currently collaborates with the GCCC/ICUDDR developing standards and exams for the accreditation of professional competencies in prevention and treatment.
