2nd Annual ISSUP Peru Conference, held from September 26-27, was a significant event for the development of addiction prevention and treatment strategies in the country. This gathering brought together national and international experts to address critical topics related to public health and justice.

One of the main topics discussed was therapeutic justice for adolescents with a restorative approach, which seeks to provide more humane and effective solutions for managing adolescents in conflict with the law in Peru, prioritizing rehabilitation over punishment. Additionally, the creation of a Regional Network of Treatment for Women was discussed and organized by the OAS/CICAD, focusing on offering comprehensive support to women suffering from addiction, with a strong emphasis on destigmatization and economic and relational autonomy for affected women.

Other key points included growing concerns over fentanyl and vaping, which pose an increasing threat to public health, as well as discussions about behavioral addictions in Peru and the possible interventions to address them effectively.

Within the framework of the Conference, a Subregional Meeting of ISSUP National Chapters in South America was held.

The conference underscored the importance of collaboration in building evidence-based policies and creating support networks that meet the specific needs of various population groups.
