Motivational Interviewing Discussion

Michael Brobbey - 12 June 2020

Hi all, I hope you have had a chance to listen or join our webinar on Motivational Interviewing yesterday. This was given by Professor Igor Koutsenok this being the second session of the Motivational Interviewing Session. I want to start a discussion within the network. I want to find out your thoughts on the webinar. What did you learn from it and how will it influence and affect the way you engage in drug demand prevention, treatment and recovery

Thank You and Welldone Prof. Igor, actually I couldn't join the webinar, but I found the downloaded PDF version interesting and educating. I hope to give more comments on this immediately I digest the material before the third presentation next week.

You have really done a good job so far.

Thanks Michael. Yes, I was able to watch it.  I am not a clinician but found the session to be helpful to broader aspects of communication.  I really liked the case studies with the doctor trying to convince the patient to take cholesterol medication.  We sometimes forget to put ourselves in the shoes of the other person.  Empathy are reflective listening are really important.

Thanks Brian. I found the session to be excellent especially the part about asking good questions. I sincerely believe that good questions help to open up excellent dialogue between people along with the important skill of listening. I think this is key to unlock empathy. The webinar gave me a lot to think about and things I can personally improve on.
