The Intentional SUD Clinical Supervisor

The purpose of this webinar is to provide substance use disorder (SUD) clinical supervisors with specialized training so that they may effectively meet the demands of today’s SUD clinical supervisor. This webinar will explore the discrimination model, a process supervision model, and its place in SUD clinical supervision. As detailed in the basic tents of the model, SUD supervisors will learn the skills necessary to discern their foci and role to match the individual training needs of each unique supervisee. SUD supervisors will be able to explore and apply theoretical underpinnings of the model by actively engaging in immersive learning opportunities within the webinar. Skills learned in the training can be readily transferred into the SUD workforce, directly supporting the sustainability and efficacy of the SUD clinical supervisor.

Presenters

Kelley McNichols, PhD, LPC, NCC, CADC, earned an undergraduate degree in criminology and pre-law from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a Master of Science in Education with a concentration in Community Counseling from Duquesne University, and a Doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision from Duquesne University. McNichols is a licensed professional counselor (LPC), national certified counselor (NCC), certified alcohol and drug counselor (CADC), certified co-occurring disorder professional (CCDP), and certified clinical trauma professional (CCTP). McNichols is an assistant professor and currently serving in the roles of the Assistant Director to Graduate Counseling Programs and the Assistant Clinical Director at Waynesburg University. McNichols has over 20 years of experience in the field of community behavioral health, specifically with substance use disorder counseling.

Jenna Vidulich, LPC, NCC, earned her Bachelor's degree from Temple University and a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Waynesburg University. Vidulich is currently a Doctoral candidate in the Counselor Education and Supervision program at Waynesburg University. Her research agenda focuses on the training experience of substance use disorder clinical supervisors in Pennsylvania. Vidulich currently works full time at UPMC Health Plan as a digital health coaching manager. As a digital health coaching manger, she provides clinical supervision to the health coaches working within a behavioral health app. Vidulich has a background in substance use disorder and mental health counseling, has worked as a mobile therapist, private practice therapist, and community counselor.

Learning Objectives

• SUD clinical supervisors will be able to articulate the theoretical constructs of the discrimination model.
• SUD clinical supervisors will be able to identify the unique roles and foci, with corresponding interventions within and across supervision sessions, to support supervisee needs.
• SUD clinical supervisors will actively engage in immersive learning applying learned concepts to promote self-efficacy while enhancing the sustainability of the SUD workforce.
