Humphrey Fellowship Program
The Humphrey Fellowship Program sponsored by the US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, is a US government international exchange program supported by the people of the United States. Fellowships are granted competitively to professional candidates with a commitment to public service in both the public and the private sectors in a wide range of fields, including substance abuse education, treatment and prevention. PhD Opportunities
Mental Health and Substance Abuse
The University of Staffordshire, UK is offering a PhD opportunity with a partial scholarship in the School of Law Policing and Forensics, Mental Health and Substance Abuse: Supporting Dual Diagnosis Service Users.
The PhD project will explore recovery in individuals with dual diagnosis of substance use and mental health disorders. Dual diagnosis or comorbidity is often met with stigma and can limit access to services and treatment. The research will also explore the link between mental health and crime and punishment and will directly contribute to local level changes to services in Stoke-on-Trent where the university is located.
The partial scholarship scheme offers an opportunity to enrol in a PhD project without having to pay any tuition fees. In exchange for this, applicants would be expected to provide a maximum of 250 hours of teaching support to the academic staff. No bursary or any other funding will be provided and it is required that researchers will be based in the Stoke-on-Trent campus.

What causes overlap between mental health disorders?
QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute in Australia is offering a PhD research scholarship to explore the connection between mental health disorders such as depression and alcoholism.
The scholarship offers a stipend of $27,082 AUD per year and will also cover the costs of overseas health insurance.
The competitive funding is offered through the Translational Neurogenomics research group which investigates "the role of genetic factors in a range of psychiatric conditions, including schizophrenia, addiction, anxiety disorders and compulsive disorders."

June
The International Health Congress will be held in Oxford, June 28th - 30th, 2018. The event will bring together health researchers who aim to promote health and wellbeing through improved health services in Europe and around the world.

July
Liverpool John Moores University will host a PhD symposium on 4th July 2018. The conference is free to attend and will focus on "Improving and Understanding Health".
Topics including: Preparing for viva, academic writing, undertaking research with vulnerable adults, and undertaking research with children will all be available.

Early Careers Opportunity
STAT Wunderkids is an initiative by Statnews.com to "honour the brightest young minds in life science for their work in academia, industry, and in the clinic."
Wunderkids is open to those based in North America. The Wunderkids will be featured on the STAT website and invited to the HUBweek event which takes place in Boston, US in October 2018. HUBweek brings together art, science and technology so is sure to be an interesting event!
