The Power of Collaboration Project: Substance Use Disorder treatment for women
The Power of Collaboration is a joint project between ISSUP and the GWN. This initiative delves into three critical areas in substance use disorder (SUD) treatment for women:
-
MIND THE GAP: GLOBAL SURVEY EXAMINING ACCESS FOR SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER TREATMENT FOR WOMEN (Infographic 1)
-
ADDRESSING THE GAP: GLOBAL SURVEY FINDS URGENT NEED FOR TRAUMA CARE IN WOMEN WITH SUBSTANCE USE DISORDERS (Infographic 2)
-
DIGITAL PRESENCE OF TREATMENT CENTRES FOR SUBSTANCE USE DISORDERS AROUND THE WORLD: RESULTS FROM A GLOBAL SURVEY (Infographic 3)
The project is particularly timely and offers valuable insights into gender-specific issues in SUD treatment. By presenting original data, it identifies gaps in care globally and proposes recommendations for improvement. This work was published in Issue 2 of the Addictology Journal for 2024, further emphasising its relevance and contribution to the field.
The accompanying infographics bring attention to the pressing need for gender-responsive programs, the inconsistent implementation of trauma-informed protocols, and the barriers women face in accessing digital resources for treatment. Collectively, these discussions aim to stimulate dialogue that could shape both international and national drug policies, as well as enhance training and practices within the SUD treatment workforce worldwide.
